Though GAP stimulated large crowds and heated debate at UNC Charlotte, a campus police officer called our exhibit “the most peaceful demonstration [they’ve] had on [their] campus.” One student summarized our philosophy quite well, “If you can’t see the act itself (abortion), your mind cannot be changed. You must see it." "In recent years, I’ve thought that abortion is ok. This display has changed my mind.” This quote from a UNCC student highlights the type of impact GAP often has. As debate swirled all around, one confounded student lamented, “I wish I had more information so I could argue my point...I’ve only been arguing my opinion...it is hard to argue with the truth of these pictures.”
Though GAP meets with all manner of bizarre protests and accusations, many students offer nothing but praise. One UNCC, African-American student came up to say, “I’m so thankful someone had the courage to put these pictures up.” CBR volunteer Glendon Collins shares his perspective with some fellow African-Americans. GAP's straightforward presentation offers students the opportunity to rationally process the facts before them. As one student noted, “this is a very effective way of getting your point across. It shows reality in a way that doesn’t push your personal opinions; it’s facts.” For all our critics who claim that college students already know everything about abortion, consider the following testimony from a UNCC student: “I was pro-choice when I had my daughter, but after seeing these pictures I would never even think about having an abortion. I didn’t know that this was what abortion is. I’ve never seen an aborted baby.”
CBR condemns all abortion related violence and will not associate with groups or individuals who fail to condemn such violence.
